Dr. D. Lance Smallwood ‘11

Dr. D. Lance Smallwood is a board-certified Radiologist who was born and raised in Gainesville, GA. He looks back fondly on his time at North Georgia College and State University, where he was a member of the 2008 Peach Belt Tournament championship baseball team, an active brother of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and served as an INTRO leader. These experiences helped shape his leadership and character, preparing him for a career in medicine. After earning his B.S. in Biology from North Georgia College and State University, he completed medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, a radiology residency at the Medical College of Georgia, and a musculoskeletal radiology fellowship at Wake Forest University. He then returned to Georgia to join the radiology faculty at the Medical College of Georgia.

Since returning to the Medical College of Georgia, Lance has taken on the role of Program Director of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program. In this position, he oversees the entire residency program and works closely with residents throughout their training. His passion for teaching and mentorship is matched by the reward of seeing young physicians develop into compassionate, skilled and impactful radiologists who contribute meaningfully to the field.

Lance resides in Augusta, Georgia with his wife Bailie, who is also a proud NGCSU alumna, and their four children. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time outdoors, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, and reading. He and his family are active members of Warren Church, where they volunteer regularly and enjoy being part of their small group community.
