Melissa Silva ‘19
Melissa Silva was born and raised in Gainesville, GA. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of North Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a Minor in Communication. During her time at UNG, she was placed on the Dean’s List, named a Women of UNG Coed Leadership honoree, and received multiple UNG scholarships.
After graduation, Silva pursued a Fulbright Scholarship in 2019 as an English Teaching Assistant in the Kyrgyz Republic. Although her Fulbright experience was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, she returned to the U.S. and began working as a Spanish teacher and soccer coach at Chestatee Academy Middle School.
In 2021, Silva joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a Public Health Data Analyst, contributing to the multilingual services team and assisting with important public health initiatives.
Currently, Silva works as a State-Licensed Mortgage Loan Originator Broker at Nexa Mortgage, where she helps families navigate the complexities of purchasing residential and commercial properties. She was recognized as part of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce’s Young Professionals 35 Under 35. She also serves on the board of the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs as the Vice Chair for Professional Development. Melissa also recently received the UNG Distinguished Young Alumni award this past spring. With a deep commitment to service and leadership, Silva continues to inspire others through her professional work and volunteer efforts.
