Please Donate to the Dean Mike Hyams Emerging Leader Scholarship

The Dean Mike Hyams Emerging Leader Scholarship was established to honor Dean Hyams for his 28 years of outstanding service as the Dean of Students at the Dahlonega campus of the University of North Georgia (UNG). This scholarship recognizes an outstanding student leader who exemplifies the qualities most admired and respected in Dean Hyams: Dedication, Enthusiasm, and Integrity. The recipient of this scholarship is recognized at the annual Alumni Awards Banquet.

The need for this scholarship arises from the desire to support and encourage student leaders who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills in some aspect of campus life. The scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate students who have completed at least their second term at UNG and are in their senior year. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and must provide evidence of their leadership involvement on the Dahlonega campus.

Dean Mike Hyams dedicated his career to supporting and empowering students at UNG. whether through INTRO (orientation program), leadership rope course at Pine Valley or personal encounters, Dean Hyams had the innate ability to encourage students to take risks and fulfill their true potential. Throughout his tenure as the Dean of Students, he became a mentor, advocate, and role model for countless students. He gave students a voice and empowered the SGA to its highest level. His unwavering commitment to student success and his ability to inspire others to become leaders make him an exceptional individual deserving of recognition.

By awarding this scholarship, we are not only recognizing the outstanding achievements of a student leader but also investing in their future success. The recipient of this scholarship will receive a monetary award that can be used towards educational expenses or other needs that will support their continued growth and development.

The Dean Mike Hyams Emerging Leader Scholarship serves as a testament to the importance of student leadership on campus. Student leaders play a pivotal role in shaping the UNG community, fostering a sense of belonging, and inspiring others to pursue their passions and make a positive impact. By recognizing and supporting these emerging leaders, we are investing in the future of our campus and ensuring that the legacy of Dean Hyams continues to thrive.
